Syracuse University

Syracuse University is a private school founded in 1870. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 15,739 (Fall 2023), and its campus is located in the city on 725 acres of land. The university operates on a semester-based academic calendar. Syracuse University is ranked 73rd among national universities in the 2025 edition of Best Colleges. Its tuition and fees are $65,528.

Few schools are so closely associated with a color as Syracuse University. The brilliant orange color is closely tied to campus life and is reflected in student media outlets such as The Daily Orange, a student-run newspaper, and CitrusTV, a television studio. The school's athletic teams, known simply as the Orange, compete in the NCAA Atlantic Coast Conference Division I, cheered on by the school's mascot, Otto the Orange. The football team plays in the Carrier Dome, the only dome in the Northeast.

The school campus is located on University Hill in Syracuse, Central New York. Syracuse University receives approximately 100 inches of snowfall per year during the winter months, and students have plenty of opportunities to ski, snowboard, and sled on the nearby mountains. There are more than 300 student organizations on campus. Approximately 30% of Syracuse students participate in Greek life. Freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus. The free "Connector Corridor" bus shuttles between campus and downtown Syracuse, and annual celebrations include Winterfest and Jazz Fest.

Syracuse University offers a variety of opportunities for undergraduates to study abroad, both through the university's centers abroad and through programs with partner institutions. Freshmen interested in the liberal arts can use their first semester to study abroad through Explore programs in Madrid, Strasbourg, France, or Florence, Italy. Notable Syracuse alumni include author Joyce Carol Oates, actor Jerry Stiller, former professional football player Donovan McNabb, and singer and actress Vanessa Williams .
