The University of Sarajevo is the largest university in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Founded in 1949, the University of Sarajevo traces its history back to the Ottoman Islamic School of Sarajevo, which was founded in 1531, making it the oldest university in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
