Texas A&M University

Texas A&M University is a public university founded in 1876. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 59,933 (Fall 2023) in an urban setting on a 5,200-acre campus. The university operates on a semester-based academic calendar. Texas A&M University is ranked 51st in National Universities in the 2025 edition of Best Colleges. In-state tuition and fees are $12,413 and out-of-state tuition and fees are $40,307.

Ready to become a "Yankee"? Texas A&M University, located in Central Texas, is an academic and athletic powerhouse, and all of its students have that nickname. Once an all-boys school known as the Agricultural and Mechanical College, now known simply as A&M, it is now a coeducational university offering a wide variety of majors and activities. Students can choose from more than 1,000 clubs and organizations, including nearly 60 fraternities and sororities. Approximately 10% of students are affiliated with Greek societies. Many more students (approximately 25%) participate in the Texas A&M University Intramural Sports League, one of the largest in the country. The school's varsity sports program competes in the NCAA Southeastern Conference Division I. The mascot, Reveille IX, is a sheepdog who cheers on the school. The sheepdog, known as "Miss Rev," is also the highest-ranking member of the school's Corps of Cadets, which is the largest ROTC program in the nation (excluding programs at service academies). First-year students interested in community service can get involved immediately through the Freshman Initiative for Service and Hospitality (FISH). All students can give back to the community during "The Big Event." The Big Event is the nation's largest single-day student volunteer event, with more than 22,000 Aggies participating and working to improve the nearby cities of College Station and Bryan. For many students, these neighborhoods are also their homes; incoming freshmen are not required to live on campus, and many choose to live in College Station or Bryan.

The university's Dwight Lauck College of Engineering, the Mays School of Business, and the College of Education and Human Development all have highly ranked graduate programs. The university is known for its research institutions that offer unique programs, including the only veterinary school in Texas. The school also has a campus in Qatar, where about 500 students are enrolled. Notable Texas A&M alumni include dozens of politicians, such as U.S. Representatives Joe Barton (R-Texas) and Louie Gummer (R-Texas). Joe Barton (R-Texas) and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), as well as pageant winners such as Miss America Kandace Krueger and Miss Louisiana USA Melissa McConnell.
