Tufts University is a private school founded in 1852. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 6,877 (Fall 2023) and is located on a 150-acre campus in a suburban area. The university operates on a semester-based academic calendar. Tufts University is ranked #37 in National Universities in the 2025 edition of Best Colleges. Its tuition and fees are $70,704.
Located not far from downtown Boston, Tufts University consists of the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering, which serve undergraduate and graduate students, as well as several graduate and professional schools, including the highly ranked School of Medicine and the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. All freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus. Students can participate in a variety of student groups, such as Bicycle Club Sports, the all-male a cappella group the Beelzebubs, and the Geological Society. About half of the student body participates in study abroad programs and about a quarter of the student body participates in Greek life. Jumbo the elephant, Tufts' official mascot, is the only school mascot to be listed in the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Tufts also has a permanent art collection that includes works by Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and John Singer Sargent.
