New York University is a private school founded in 1831. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 29,760 (Fall 2023) and is located in an urban area. The university follows a semester-based academic calendar. New York University is ranked #30 in National Universities in the 2025 edition of Best Colleges. Its tuition and fees are $62,796.

NYU's main campus is located in Manhattan's vibrant Greenwich Village. NYU is a truly urban school, with no dividing line between the campus and the streets of the Big Apple. Students can live all four years in one of Manhattan's many dormitory buildings, but many upperclassmen also choose to live off-campus in city apartments. Greek life at NYU is small but very active, with more than 30 fraternity and sorority chapters. There are more than 300 student organizations on campus, such as the student radio station, WNYU, which broadcasts its programs online and to the university community on local FM channels.

New York University is divided into several colleges, the largest of which is the College of Arts and Sciences. For those interested in theater or film, the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts is a great choice, offering undergraduate and graduate programs in acting, dance, dramatic writing, film, and television. Former Tisch students include directors Martin Scorsese and Spike Lee. Other graduate programs include the highly ranked Stern School of Business, the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, the School of Law, the School of Medicine, the Silver School of Social Work and the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
