The University of Stellenbosch is located at the foot of Table Mountain in the world's most beautiful winemaking town of Stellenbosch, South Africa's second oldest town, about a 30-minute drive from Cape Town. Founded in 1866, Stellenbosch University is one of the oldest universities in South Africa, with a history of over 100 years. After more than a century of development, the quality of its education and academic research are among the highest in the world and in Africa. Stellenbosch University has four campuses (Stellenbosch, Tygerberg, Bellville Park and Saldanha), 10 faculties and 150 programs. At a rough estimate, of the 24,348 students enrolled in 2002, 1,597 were foreign students from 74 countries. There are about 2,500 faculty members, including 138 professors and 900 teaching staff. And also has more than 50 research and service organizations. It is noteworthy that the university has the highest proportion of postgraduate students of any university in South Africa, accounting for 38% of the total student body, and 8% are international students. The university is well equipped with modern libraries, international internet, and language self-service libraries for the convenience of international students.
