Case Western Reserve University

Case Western Reserve University is a private school founded in 1826. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 6,186 (Fall 2023) on a 267-acre campus located in an urban area. Case Western Reserve University is known for its world-class research, but with more than 200 student organizations, there are plenty of opportunities for students to get involved in extracurricular activities as well. Case Western Reserve's varsity Spartans compete in the Division III University Athletic Association. The Greek system emphasizes a commitment to on-campus and community service, in which approximately one-third of the student body is involved. The campus is located about 20 minutes from downtown Cleveland, and students can visit some of the downtown museums, such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Great Lakes Science Center, for free. On campus, freshmen live in one of four themed residential neighborhoods known as Cedar, Juniper, Magnolia and Mistletoe. All students are invited to attend the annual SpringFest, which brings together music, carnival games and a variety of activities and is the largest student-organized event on campus.

Case Western Reserve University boasts a number of top-notch professional graduate programs, such as the Health Law program in the School of Law. The university also has a reputation for its biomedical engineering program in the College of Engineering and its nonprofit management program in the Weatherhead School of Management. In addition to its suburban campus, the university owns the University Farm, a 400-acre tract of land about 10 miles from campus where students conduct research and take biology, ecology, and art courses. Notable alumni include former U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich and Craig Newmark, creator and namesake of the Craigslist website.
