Virginia Tech is a public school founded in 1872. The total undergraduate enrollment is 30,504 (Fall 2023) on a 2,600-acre campus. The university operates on a semester-based academic calendar. Virginia Tech is ranked 51st nationally in the 2025 edition of Best Colleges. In-state tuition and fees are $15,948 and out-of-state tuition and fees are $37,158.

Formerly a military technical college in Blacksburg, Virginia Tech encourages students to "invent the future." The university is a research powerhouse with seven institutes and two university research centers that offer research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. Graduate programs include those of the highly ranked College of Engineering. The school's athletic teams, known as the Hokies, compete in the NCAA Atlantic Coast Division I Conference. Students make up more than half of Blacksburg's residents. They have access to more than 600 clubs and organizations, including a large Greek system of more than 50 fraternities and sororities. New students are required to live on campus, and the university boasts prestigious dining facilities. Notable North Keene alumni include football player Michael Vick and talk show host Hoda Kotb.
