The Russian State Hydrometeorological University (Petersburg), the world's first institution of higher learning in the field of hydrometeorology, was founded in 1930 as the Moscow Institute of Hydrometeorology, with the main faculties of Meteorology, Hydrography, Oceanography, Ecology and Environmental Physics, Economics and Humanities.
