Tōkyō University, Japan

The University of Tokyo (東京大學, the University of Tokyo) is Japan's first modern university, established in 1877 through the merger of the Tokyo Kaisei School and the Tokyo Medical School, and is the country's highest academic center. Alumni of the University of Tokyo include 8 Nobel Prize winners and 16 Japanese prime ministers (as of 2011). The University of Tokyo is ranked 32nd in the 2014 QS World University Rankings.
