Universidad de Alcalá, one of the oldest universities in Europe, was founded in 1499 by Cardinal Cisneros, Regent of Spain, and is located in the city of Alcalá de Henares, with the main faculties of Mechanical Automation and Architecture, etc. In 1998, UNESCO inscribed the city and the University of Alcalá de Henares on the World Heritage List. In addition, every year the King awards the Cervantes Prize, an important prize in Spanish literature, in the Auditorium of the University of Alcalá.
