Joensuun yliopisto is one of Finland's leading international universities. Founded in 1969, Joensuun yliopisto cooperates with 55 universities around the world, is the coordinator of the Finnish-Russian Transnational University (FNRTU), is the current president of the SILVA network (a network of universities in Europe offering master's and doctoral programs in forestry), and is a member of the European University Foundation (EUF), the Scandinavian Center of Fudan University (FDU), and the Nordic Center of India (NCCI). It is also a member of the European University Foundation, the Nordic Center at Fudan University in China and the Nordic Center in India, and a partner university of the United Nations Environment Programme. The University has six departments: Education, Forestry, Humanities, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Theology.
