The University of Delhi (UD) is located in New Delhi, the capital city of India. It is the most prestigious and influential university among the institutions of higher learning in India. Founded in 1922, the University of Delhi has 14 academic departments, 86 faculties and 79 colleges spread throughout the city of Delhi, with about 40,000 students, more than 6,000 faculty members and more than 3,000 staff members, making it a comprehensive university of national and international repute. The major fields of study are IT, Science, Arts, Social Sciences, Law, Music and Fine Arts, Engineering, Commerce and Finance, Management, Medicine, Education, etc.
The University of Delhi campus is spread over 448 acres and is now a university town centered on administrative offices. The surrounding area is very vast. The Departments of Science, Mathematics, Literature, Law, Education, Sociology, Music and Fine Arts and the Hindu College, Sen Stephen College, School of Management, Ramgarh College, Crore Maier College, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sikh College, Miranda Women's College, and Correspondence Colleges, etc., are situated in different parts of the campus. The buildings of the various departments and colleges are distinctive, such as the orthodox Hindu college with a red two-storeyed building and the Sikh college with a white four-storeyed building.
The University of Delhi has a large library and various research facilities. The library system has 24 consultancy units with a collection of more than 250 million books (including journals). 6 higher education centers provide research facilities to the students.
With the increasing growth of the University of Delhi, new departments and colleges were finding it difficult to find a foothold in the main campus. To facilitate the proximity of students in the city, the University established colleges from the late 1950s, scattered all over New Delhi and Old Delhi.In 1973, the University established a South Campus on a piece of wasteland in the southernmost part of New Delhi to manage the teaching of the colleges in the south.
Delhi University has a long-term friendly exchange relationship with China's education sector, in the 1950s, there were international students from China studying in the university. With the development of cultural exchanges between China and India, more and more international students from China have been sent to India, and more and more students have been going to Delhi University to study computer language, history and economy for many years, and some of the international students have been cooperating with professors of Delhi University to conduct researches on topics such as "Comparison and contrast of the economy of China and India", and have achieved good results. Some of them have worked with professors of the University of Delhi on the research of "China-India Economy Comparison" and other topics, and have achieved good results.
