They were divided into three sections: 1. Amateur schools supplementing the educational and crafts programs; 2. Full-time programs for young students dedicated to industrial crafts; 3. Full-time higher education schools teaching art courses. The third part of these schools was known as the Athenian School of Art and was the forerunner of the true Athenian School of Art, teaching painting, sculpture, architecture, lithography, wood engraving, geometry and cartography. The second part of the school was known as the School of Industrial Arts and was also a technical institution, which after 1863 had become an important element in the industrial development of Athens.
