Founded in 1693, the College of William & Mary is the second oldest American university after Harvard, and has produced many influential Americans, including George Washington, the Founding Father of the United States; Thomas Jefferson, the drafter of the Declaration of Independence and the third President of the United States; and William Barton Rogers, the founder of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (who did not earn a degree). The university has a total undergraduate enrollment of 6,963 (Fall 2023) and is located in a suburban area on a 1,200-acre campus. The school operates on a semester-based academic calendar. The College of William & Mary is ranked 54th in National Universities in the 2025 edition of Best Colleges. In-state tuition and fees are $26,019 and out-of-state tuition and fees are $50,752.
