RAE (Research Assessment Exercise) is the most authoritative report on the ranking of British universities, which is done by four organizations, HEFCE, SHEFC, HEFCW and DELNI, and the report is issued about once every seven years, and the latest edition was in 2008. In the 2008 ranking, the top 10 universities are: University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, London School of Economics and Political Science, Imperial College London, University College London, University of Manchester, University of Warwick, University of York, University of Essex and University of Edinburgh.
