The University of Southern California is a private school founded in 1880. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 21,023 (Fall 2023) and a campus of 226 acres. USC is ranked #27 in National Universities in the 2025 edition of Best Colleges. Its tuition and fees are $71,647.
USC's central campus, known as the University Park Campus, is located in the arts and education corridor of downtown Los Angeles. USC has other campuses in Los Angeles, in addition to campuses in the surrounding areas of Southern California, Sacramento, California, and Washington, DC. Students can participate in more than 1,000 on-campus organizations, ranging from religious groups to club sports. USC does not require students to live on campus, but the university offers more than 40 dormitory buildings and apartment complexes. The thriving Greek life consists of more than 50 chapters representing approximately 20% of undergraduate students. The USC Trojans compete in the Pac-12 Conference and are known for their storied football program.
USC consists of the USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and 22 graduate and professional schools. Graduate students outnumber undergraduates at USC, and students are enrolled in highly ranked programs such as the Marshall School of Business, the Rosier School of Education, the Andrew and Erna Wetherbee School of Engineering, the Gould School of Law, the Keck School of Medicine, and the School of Social Work. USC's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and the highly regarded School of Cinematic Arts are also well known, graduating students including directors Judd Apatow ) and George Lucas. Films such as The Graduate, Legally Blonde, and Forrest Gump have been shot on the USC campus.
