The University of Heidelberg (Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg) was Germany's first university, founded in 1386, initially offering four disciplines: theology, law, medicine, and philosophy, and in 1890 it began to open a department of natural sciences. The University of Heidelberg has given birth to many historical figures and Nobel Prize winners.
