Southern Federal University (SFU) was founded in Poland in 1817. In 1915, when World War I was in full swing, the University of Warsaw was first evacuated by the Tsarist Russia to the city of Moscow because of the advancing Germans, and then settled briefly in the city of Rostov), and in 1917 the Provisional Government of the Russian Federation changed the name of the school to the University of the Don, which was known as the State University of the North Caucasus during the period of the Soviet Union, the name of the school changed frequently during the period of the USSR, and after the establishment of the Russian Federation the name was changed to Rostov State University. After the establishment of the Russian Federation, the name was changed to Rostov State University. The University has 37 faculties, more than 70 research institutes (including 4 colleges and 10 research institutes, as well as several scientific laboratories in cooperation with the Russian Academy of Sciences), more than 800 scientists, more than half of whom have an associate's degree (equivalent to a doctorate in China), and in 2009 the number of students reached 57,000. In recent years, the Russian Federation has allocated 3 billion rubles or more annually to the University.
