The Ecole Polytechnique (French: école Polytechnique), founded in 1794 as the Ecole Centrale de l'Enseignement Publique, is France's most distinguished engineering school, with a motto set by Napoleon, and is internationally renowned for training many scientists, politicians, military generals and entrepreneurs. After 1970, École Polytechnique is no longer a military school, but still under the Ministry of Defense, the school students also have a military registration, after graduation for the rank of second lieutenant, at the same time as France's most outstanding engineers' school, École Polytechnique is in the world's first-class level of mathematics, physics and computers and other fields, ranked 41st in the 2013 QS rankings, ranked 70th in THE 2013-2014 rankings, 57th in the field of engineering science and technology, 38th in the field of physics.
