The Guardian is a national general-interest daily newspaper in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1959 and was known as The Manchester Guardian because it was based in Manchester. The head office was moved to the capital London in 1964, although there are printing facilities in both Manchester and London. The Guardian is generally regarded by the public as having left-of-center political views. The Guardian has now established its own branch in the United States, specializing in building and marketing Internet content. On the other hand it is reducing the number of newspaper journalists overseas. This move in and out does give a glimpse of the strategic division of labor between the newspaper and its own website. The Guardian's website is a global media outlet. The Guardian itself is an increasingly local British press. The path is becoming clearer and the paper's hopes are becoming clearer.
