Mainichi Shimbun (Japan)

Japan's Mainichi Shimbun, the oldest newspaper and a household name in Japan, was established in 1911 through the merger of the Tokyo Mainichi Shimbun and the Osaka Mainichi Shimbun. On December 30, 2013, the Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Cheng Yonghua, published an op-ed in Mainichi Shimbun titled "Wrong place to make "no-war pledge"", in which he made a targeted and forceful rebuttal of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's erroneous views on his visit to the Yasukuni Shrine.
