The Japan Coast Guard (abbreviated as JCG; formerly known as Maritime Safety Agency of Japan) is an agency under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, which was established in 1948 and is mainly responsible for the maintenance of Japan's maritime safety and public security, including the rescue of shipwrecks, safety of maritime transportation, the collection and processing of maritime information, and maritime policing.
