The New York Botanical Garden, one of the premier botanical gardens in the United States, is situated along the Bronx River in the heart of New York City and covers approximately 100 hectares of land with world-class botanical laboratories that offer large-scale flower shows throughout the year. In addition, the Botanical Garden has a well-preserved herbarium and a large botanical database with over 5,000,000 specimens from around the world. The New York Botanical Garden was formerly known as the Algin Botanical Garden, founded in 1801 by David Hosak; it was renamed in 1891.
