The Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music, founded in 1866, was the second Russian conservatory to be established after the St. Petersburg Conservatory of Music. Originally known as the Moscow Conservatory, it is a world-renowned town of music education in Russia, and was founded on September 1, 1866, by the distinguished pianist, conductor, and music promoter Nikolay Rubinstein. Tchaikovsky was here at the beginning of the program. Tchaikovsky taught here at the beginning of its existence. Students at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory receive a specialized education in both the classical tradition and the current trends. Students receive a humanistic education similar to the one they receive at the university, which helps them in their musical activity. At the Conservatory there are various professional creative competitions.
