The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is a United Nations agency founded in 1950 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, whose main purpose is to protect and support refugees and to lead and coordinate global refugee protection issues. UNHCR was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize twice, in 1954 and 1981.
