The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS; formerly known as the Zoological Society of New York) is the world's largest non-profit, non-governmental wildlife conservation organization, aiming to protect wildlife and their habitats, and was founded in 1895 with its headquarters in New York. In the 1980s, WCS began its work in China and gradually launched the Western Qiangtang Conservation Project, the Northeast Tiger Conservation Project, the Reptile Project, the Wildlife Trade Project in South China, etc., and set up the "Wildlife Defenders of China's Borders Award".
