Granma, the central organ of the Cuban Communist Party, was founded in 1956 in the capital city of Havana. Its name comes from the yacht "Granma", which Castro traveled on when he led Cuban exiles in Mexico back to Cuba to engage in armed struggle. In addition to Granma, the newspaper publishes a weekly magazine with a global circulation and two websites.
