The African Union (AU) is an all-African political entity, formerly known as the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which was established in 1963 and reorganized in South Africa in 2002. The main objectives of the African Union are to develop democracy, human rights and the economy in Africa, to reduce the number of armed conflicts within Africa, and ultimately to build a United States of Africa.
