The Group of 20 (G20), a globally significant forum for economic cooperation and an informal mechanism within the framework of the Bretton Woods system, was established in Washington, D.C., on September 25, 1999, and consists of the original Group of Eight (U.S., Japan, Germany, France, U.K., Italy, Canada, and Russia) and eleven important newly industrialized countries (China, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey) plus a community (the European Union).
