The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ), the central bank of New Zealand, is the only bank in New Zealand that has the legal right to issue banknotes (New Zealand dollars), and was established in 1934, initially as a private bank; it was nationalized in 1936. The Bank is primarily responsible for implementing monetary policy, maintaining price stability, establishing and maintaining financial order, and meeting the public's demand for currency circulation.
