Clydesdale Bank was a Scottish commercial bank that was the smallest of the three banks in Scotland before Glasgow was founded in 1838. It was independently owned until 1920 when it was acquired by Associated Bank, then in 1987 it was sold to its current owner, the National Australia Bank, and in 1863, Clydesdale Bank was more successful in acquiring the Bank of Eastern Scotland, which is based in Dundee, and which has two separate offices, one in Dundee and the other in Edinburgh.
