Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), one of the largest banks in Japan, was founded in 2001 as a result of the merger of Sumitomo Bank and Sakura Bank, and is headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, and owned by Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group.
