Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB; abbreviation: NPB) is a corporate body specializing in the management of professional baseball in Japan, established in 1951, its predecessor was the Japan Professional Baseball League (JPSL), which was founded in 1936; it was renamed the Japan Baseball League (JBL) in 1939; it ceased operation at the end of 1944 due to World War II; and it was dissolved at the end of 1949. "In 1939, it was renamed the Nippon Professional Baseball League (NPB); at the end of 1944, it ceased operations due to World War II; and at the end of 1949, it was disbanded.The NPB's main responsibility is to host the Nippon Professional Baseball Championship Series and the Star Game, and it has two major leagues, the Central League and the Pacific League.
