Chungwadae (청와대; English: Cheongwadae/Blue House) is the official residence of the President of the Republic of Korea, located at No. 1 Jongno-gu, Seoul, and was originally a palace of the Goryeo Dynasty, then transformed into the backyard of Gyeongbokgung Palace after the establishment of the capital of the Joseon Dynasty in 1426. Cheong Wa Dae houses the presidential office, reception hall, conference room, and residence, and the annexes include a secretary's office, a police guard room, and a welcome building. The roof of its main building is covered with green tiles, hence its name.
