The European Southern Observatory (ESO) is an astronomical research organization founded in 1962 and headquartered in Garching, Germany, with 14 European countries as member states, as well as Brazil, that focuses on astronomy in the southern hemisphere, with most of its telescopes and instruments located in Chile.
