The Nobel Prize (Nobelpriset) is a world-famous award, a prize established under the will of the Swedish chemist Nobel, using his fortune from the invention of dynamite to create a foundation that annually honors people who have made outstanding contributions to humanity in the fields of physics, chemistry, literature, physiology or medicine, peace, and economics. The Nobel Prize was first awarded in 1901, and as of October 14, 2013, 875 individuals and organizations have received the Nobel Prize.
