The United States Department of the Interior (DOI) is the federal executive branch of the United States, established in 1849. Unlike most countries, the DOI's primary responsibility is to manage federally owned lands and conserve natural resources, as well as to deal with matters relating to Indians, Native Hawaiians, and Alaskan Natives.
