The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; abbreviated: ASPCA) was the earliest non-profit animal welfare organization in the Western Hemisphere, founded in April 1866 by Henry Bergh . Its purpose is to provide an effective way to stop animal cruelty throughout the United States and is dedicated to stopping animal cruelty from occurring.
