Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) is a U.S. film-related non-profit organization founded in 1927, comprising more than 6,000 members of the film industry, and is the host of the Academy Awards, with the primary purpose of promoting the development of the arts and sciences of motion pictures. The main purpose of the Academy Awards is to promote the development of the art and science of film and to recognize outstanding contributions to the film industry.
