The Ministry of Unification of Korea (Korean: 통일부; English: Ministry of Unification) is the Republic of Korea's special and prestigious national administrative organ dedicated to the reunification of the Korean Peninsula, which was formerly known as the National Land Reunification Institute, established on March 1, 1969; renamed the Unification Institute on December 27, 1990; and reorganized on February 28, 1998 as the Ministry of Unification. The Minister of the Ministry of Unification of Korea is known as the Minister of Unification and is also appointed as a State Councilor. The main responsibilities of the ministry are to formulate policies related to the reunification of the North and the South, as well as North-South dialogue, exchanges and cooperation, and humanitarian support, and to manage education, publicity and other affairs related to the reunification cause.
