Kookmin Bank, the predecessor of Kookmin Bank, was established on February 1, 1963, and merged with Daedong Bank and Long Term Credit Bank in the 1990s. After the Asian Financial Crisis, on April 23, 2001, the old Kookmin Bank merged with Korea Housing Bank on the instructions of the government to become the largest commercial bank in Korea, and thus the new Kookmin Bank was born. Currently, Kookmin Bank has 25 million customers in Korea, accounting for 57% of the country's population, with total assets of US$177.3 billion, nearly 1,303 domestic and overseas branches, and a customer base of 25 million. Kookmin Bank is the No. 1 bank in the country in terms of assets, business network and customer network, and ranked No. 349 in the Fortune 500 companies in 2007.
