International Organization for Migration (International Organization for Migration; abbreviation: IOM) is a non-political International Organization for Migration (IOM), originating from the European Intergovernmental Committee on Migration (ICEM), which was established at the International Conference on Migration (ICIM) held in Brussels on 5 December 1951; the name was changed to Intergovernmental Committee on Migration (ICM) in 1980; the name was changed to the current name in May 1987. Intergovernmental Committee on European Migration (ICEM); in 1980, the name was changed to "Intergovernmental Committee on Migration" (ICM); in May 1987, the current name. The purpose of the organization is to ensure the orderly transfer of migrants to receiving countries by cooperating with States on migration issues.
