Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, the International Military Sports Council (Conseil International du Sport Militaire, CISM, IMSC, often referred to as the International Military Sports Council, IMSC) is an international military sports organization with 133 members (2014). The purpose of the IMSC is to promote friendship through sport (Friendship through Sport), and to promote the establishment of friendly relations among the armies of member countries through the creation of various military sports competitions. The IMS organizes the World Military Games regularly (once every four years), and a number of individual competitions such as parachuting, shooting and military pentathlon are held every year. China joined the IMS Council in 1978.
