The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Association of Southeast Asian Nations; abbreviation: ASEAN, ASEAN) is a political, economic, and security integration and cooperation organization based on economic cooperation in Southeast Asia, established on August 8, 1967, with its headquarters in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, and its predecessors in Malaya (now Malaysia), the Philippines, and Thailand on July 31, 1961 in Bangkok established the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Purpose of ASEAN: To jointly promote economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region in a spirit of equality and cooperation, and to lay the foundation for a prosperous and peaceful community of South-East Asian nations in order to promote peace and stability in the region.
