Sumitomo Chemical, a chemical company of the Sumitomo Group, originated in 1915 with the production of chemical fertilizers from sulfite gas generated from copper refining. Sumitomo Chemical has four divisions, namely Basic Chemistry, Petrochemistry, Precision Chemistry and Agricultural Chemistry, and 10 research institutes, and provides thousands of chemical products, including industrial chemicals, synthetic fiber materials and chemical fertilizers.
