The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA; abbreviation: BAFTA; original name: BAFTA Awards) is a British award dedicated to excellence in film, television, and interactive media, and was co-founded on April 16, 1947 by David Lean, Alexander -David Lean, Alexander Korda, Carol Reed, Charles Laughton, and Logie Manfil on April 16, 1947; in 1958, the Academy merged with the Television Producers' and Directors' Guild to become the British Association of Film and Television; in 1976, it changed its name to its current name; it is headquartered in London. 1976, became the British Film and Television Council; the name was changed to its present form; the headquarters are in London. The award's trophy is a mask, designed by American sculptor Mitts Cunliffe.BAFTA has three categories: the London Awards, the Los Angeles Awards, and the Scottish and Welsh Awards.
