ASICS, the world's fifth-largest sports brand, was founded in 1949 by Mr. Yasukiro Onizuka, whose Chinese name, "爱世克斯"(meaning "healthy soul in a healthy body"), symbolizes Japan's refined and professional national culture. In 1951, ASICS made its first major breakthrough when a runner wearing the brand's running shoes won the marathon running competition in Boston.
