New Century Evangelion (新世纪エヴァンゲリオン; Neon Genesis Evangelion; abbreviation: EVA) is a Japanese animation company GAINAX's representative work, a robot animated film directed by Hideaki Umino, which premiered in Japan in 1995. There are three theatrical releases of the anime work, in addition to movies, manga and games in the series. EVA was awarded the first Animation Excellence Award by the Animation Division of the Media Arts Festival of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan in 1997, and was later honored as "The Most Classic Animation of All Time" by the "Japan Media Arts 100".
