The Stanford Research Institute for International Counseling (SRI International; formerly known as the Stanford Research Institute) is a private research organization in the United States, which enjoys a high reputation globally and is regarded as "the world's first-rate research institute". The organization was founded by Stanford University with the support of the Western Consortium of the United States; it became independent from Stanford University in 1970; and changed its name to its current one in 1977. Its primary responsibility is to conduct a wide range of interdisciplinary research for the United States Department of Defense and for business and industry.
